If you’re an American planning to travel to Brazil, it’s crucial to understand the new visa requirements. As of January 10th, 2024, the Brazilian government has introduced an electronic visitor visa (e-Visa) system for citizens of the United States, Australia, and Canada. Brazil Federation decided to postpone the visa requirement until April 10, 2024. It seems they are worried about people trying to visit Carnaval and want to make sure the new requirement does not affect the turnout. Here is a link to the new decree for the Brazil visa postponement.

 

List of Brazil’s New e-Visa Basic Requirements for US Citizens, Canadians, and Australians

Here are the basic requirements for a Brazil e-Visa application:

 

1. Passport: You must have a valid passport with at least six months’ validity from the date of your application. The passport should also have at least two blank pages. The e-visa won’t be stamped in your passport but an entry and exit stamp will.

You will also need to submit a 2″x 2″ passport photo when applying for your e-visa. You will also need To Show the Confirmation of your flight’s Arrival and Departure Reservation. This Reservation will need to show you entering the country and leaving Brazil.

 

The e-visa issued by the Brazilian government has a validity period of 10 years for Americans, starting from the date of issue. This means that American travelers can enter Brazil multiple times within this period without needing to apply for a new visa each time. I took the time and reached out to the VFS eVisa help desk and had a chat with them. The length that the New Brazil e-visa lasts is 10 years for Americans. You can take multiple Trips to Brazil within this 10-year time frame without needing to renew your visa. The longest duration that you can stay in Brazil is a maximum of 90 days in a 12 month period unless You get an extension with the Brazilian Federal Police. For Canadians and Austrailians the e-Visa Last 5 Years.

 

The Brazilian Federal Police can issue out another 90 day stay in Brazil making a total of 180 days if you are approved for an extension. The confusion about the e-visa before was worrying because people thought you would need to submit a new visa application every trip to Brazil. I hope this gives everyone a full understanding.

I must say I am disappointed with the whole new visa process but understand it’s a part of traveling. Up until now visiting Brazil has been so easy these last few years.
